Not The BBC News: 10 July 2013
In rugby union, the
Lions won the series against Australia, convincingly in the end. A plane crashed in San
Francisco (Boeing 777, only two dead, one may have been run over by an
emergency vehicle!) and a train blew up in Quebec (lots still missing).
Ed Milliband has fallen out with the trade unions. No really high
profile football transfers: Paulinho to Tottenham is about the biggest.
The Archbishop of Canterbury eants to set up church credit unions, and
has started talking to Stonewall about a 'way foward' for the CofE's
approach to gay issues. Mark Cavendish keeps crashing in the Tour de
France. Calgary in Canada got severely flooded. The Britsih Grand Prix
was chaos because of six tyre blowouts, five on the rear left tyre.
Morrisons now offer online shopping. The early rounds at Wimbledon saw
half the top six seeds (men's and women's) knocked out inside two days.
Nineteen firefighters died in a forest fire in Arizona. In a pro-life
rally in Arizona, pro-life supporters sang Amazing Grace while abortion
supporters chanted Hail Satan. Alex Salmond got in trouble (in England,
anyway) for waving a saltire when Andy Murray won at Wimbledon. The Irish prime
minister kicked out four of his MPs who refused to back his abortion
bill. Johnn Inverdale of BBC radio got in trouble for describing the winner of the
women's singles, Marion Bartoli, as "not a looker". A prominent ex-gay
leader of an American church known for offering "gay conversion""
through prayer stepped down after admitting a gay affair, and allegedly
refuted the message he used to teach. A Texas anti-abortion bill was
defeated by Democrat filibustering and loud chanting to stop the
official roll call being taken; the woman who spoke for an 11 hour
filibuster is being hailed as a hero by some. Zara Phillips is pregnant.
Brazil beat Spain 3-0 in the final of the Confederations Cup and are
now favourites for World Cup 2015, if the population will stop rioting
over the expense of it all.
